After a lengthy search and coordinated investigative efforts by the Kinston Police Department Investigations Division, a known offender familiar to law enforcement has been located and served with multiple outstanding warrants.

Despite repeated attempts to evade supervision — including tampering with an electronic monitoring device and avoiding contact with correctional authorities — this individual’s flight from accountability has come to an end.

Through the tireless and methodical work of the Wayne County Probation Enforcement Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, this subject was safely apprehended and taken into custody without incident. The individual now faces serious felony charges, including aiding and abetting first-degree offenses, among others.

This outcome highlights the persistence, cooperation, and dedication of local law enforcement agencies committed to ensuring that justice is neither delayed nor denied.

**CASE UPDATE**
On September 16, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Prince Ellison was taken into custody without incident by members of the KPD SWAT Team, KPD Investigations Division, the Lenoir County SRT, and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Ellison was located at a residence in Walstonburg, North Carolina.
On behalf of Chief Keith Goyette and the Kinston Police Department, we extend our sincere appreciation to all assisting agencies for their outstanding teamwork and support in bringing this investigation to a safe conclusion.

Kinston Police Department – Murder Warrant Issued
Kinston Police Department detectives have obtained warrants for 22-year-old Prince Ellison in connection with the murder of Daryl Dudley.
Ellison is considered armed and dangerous. Do not attempt to approach or apprehend him.

Homicide Investigation – East Bright Street 
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 11:53 p.m., officers with the Kinston Police Department were dispatched to a report of a subject who had been shot near the 500 block of East Bright Street.
Responding officers located the victim, 52-year-old Daryl Dudley of Kinston, inside an apartment on the 500 block of East Bright Street. He was found unresponsive with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. EMS was dispatched, but the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Kinston Police Department detectives and crime scene personnel responded and are actively investigating this incident.
The Kinston Police Department places the highest priority on investigating violent crimes in our community. We remain committed to pursuing justice without compromise and continue to seek the assistance of the public we proudly serve.
