Suspect in Highland Avenue Assault and Shooting Incident Apprehended
The Kinston Police Department would like to inform the public that 18-year-old Jai’quez Bond was taken into custody early this morning by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
Bond was wanted in connection with an April 21, 2025, incident on E. Highland Avenue in Kinston, where he reportedly fired a shot at a female victim during a dispute.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office for their outstanding efforts and assistance in apprehending Bond. Their partnership and swift action helped bring resolution to this dangerous case.

Kinston Police Investigating Assault and Shooting Incident on E. Highland Avenue
On April 21, 2025, officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to the 600 block of E. Highland Avenue in reference to an assault involving a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who reported that 18-year-old Jai’quez Bond had fired a shot at her following an altercation that began as a dispute between two females.
The investigation revealed that Bond arrived at the residence with a female companion to pick up her children. While at the location, a disagreement arose over missing property, escalating into a physical altercation in the front yard. During the incident, Bond reportedly struck a female victim in the face and pointed a firearm at her. Witnesses stated that Bond then aimed the weapon at the victim and shot a round before fleeing the scene.
As a result of the investigation, detectives with the Kinston Police Department have obtained warrants for Jai’quez Bond of Greenville on the following charges:
Attempted Murder
Assault by Pointing a Gun
Assault on a Female
