Need to Safely Dispose of Unused Medications?
The Kinston Police Department proudly participates in Operation Medicine Drop, a statewide initiative that helps prevent unused or expired prescription drugs from falling into the wrong hands or polluting our water supply.
A secure drop box is located in the front lobby of the Kinston Police Department, available to the public year-round during lobby hours. Simply bring your unwanted medications (excluding needles and liquids) and place them in the drop box, no questions asked.
Operation Medicine Drop is a collaborative effort between the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Safe Kids North Carolina, the DEA, and local law enforcement agencies. Since 2013, North Carolinians have safely disposed of over 80,000 pounds of prescription pills.
This initiative not only helps protect our environment but also plays a critical role in reducing prescription drug misuse.
Reminder: Because some medications may include narcotics or other controlled substances, collection must be handled by law enforcement, and unsecured drop-off locations are not allowed.
